Park view

This was my first portrait for this project: Oliver & family, #1187

January 25, 2017

My plan, at least initially... is not to name the humans, unless or until they send in their names. My focus is to make meaningful human/canine relationship portraits without violating anyone’s privacy. If people write and say it’s OK to add their names, I will. But I feel leaving off the humans’ names may help maintain a little mystery, and possibly motivate people to “actually” ask other people their names, rather than “too simply” learning each other’s names here, online. Maybe you’ll change my mind, but for the moment, this is how it will be.

What’s the deal? Is this a business project? No. It’s something I feel compelled to do, ever since Tippy and I first visited in October. Can you buy copies of the pictures? Yes, but the posted ones are my gift and free to those in the photos. If you ask me to remove any photos of yourself, I will. I’ve been a photographer almost my whole life and I’m looking for something more satisfying than most of what I’ve done up to now, and I’m trusting my instincts. And right now this is beckoning me. I don’t know where it will lead, but so far I only feel really great about it. My nine year old dog Tippy (a stray @ 6 months old, Walker Hound/Beagle) was a little apprehensive about the park today, but she was apprehensive in October too, until her 4th visit when it clicked for her. If she doesn’t adapt in a few days I might scrap this whole operation, but my sense is, she’ll make some new friends soon, and we’ll visit the part 4-5 times a week, starting this week (Jan 25th). -c.

Expect new Dog Park
portraits every week!

And I may add non-portrait snapshots
too since I do see fun stuff everyday.

Park view

It’s a world unto itself, like no place else. Tho’ rarely this well mannered!

10/28/2016

Starting in late January I’ll start making more frequent trips to the Dog Park with my dog Tippy and a camera... to do Dog+Owner portraits as a gift to the dog park community. I’ll post medium size copies here, anonymously, for freely downloading, and I can add names too, if you want. I’m looking forward to doing this adventure, and we’ll see how it goes.

The Dog Park can feel like the Dogs are 100% totally and completely in charge of the place. The Humans may try to maintain order, but rarely have much success. When I’m there I feel I’ve been transported to the wild, wild West, or maybe to another planet. It shakes my normal sense of reality, versus something more fluid and wild like the dogs, which I love, which is why I plan to spend more time there. Hence this project.

I photograph people. And yes—clearly—dogs are people too. -c.

This isn’t a public page so it’s fine to share a few scary photos, right? Expect funny ones too.
